Required Qualifications: Must be able to pass the appropriate Civil Service exam. Two years experience in the care and maintenance of a large building.
Preferred Qualifications: Employee must perform a variety of duties, including but not limited to Maintenance and repair work, in the cleaning and care of one or more public buildings and adjacent grounds and sidewalks or for major areas of the larger State buildings and, in addition, usually supervise lower lever cleaning personnel. Applicants must be physically able to perform the tasks of the position and to communicate verbally for the purpose of exchanging information.

Brief Description of Duties:
  • Knowledge of the use of small hand tools.
  • Knowledge of the properties of various cleaning substances.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to use various cleaning equipment and products.
  • Ability to stand, stoop, bend and stretch for long periods of time.
  • Ability to perform medium to heavy manual labor.
  • Ability to verbally communicate for the purpose of exchanging information.
  • Ability to make routine repairs requiring handyman ability.
  • Ability to climb ladders or scaffolds.
  • Ability to supervise a small staff.

Other Duties: All other duties as assigned.

Special Notes: 1 Full-Time Day position - 6:00 am -2:30 pm - variable days - weekends and off shift required. Please note that Stony Brook Medicine is a smoke-free environment.
All Hospital positions are subject to changes in pass days and shifts as necessary. This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair.
