Salary: $40.00 hour/Per-Diem

Required Qualifications: Graduate of an approved program in Radiation Therapy, NYS License or a Temp license in Radiation Therapy, member of ARRT and ASRT.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Varian Accelerators, conventional simulations, CT simulations, and ARIA record and verify system. Experience performing various treatments to include SBRT, IMRT, HDR and SRS.

Brief Description of Duties: This is a Per-Diem staff radiation therapist position. This person is responsible for administering daily treatment on accelerators to patients using various treatment techniques along with simulating and scheduling patients for treatment.
  • Treatment of Patients: Arrange appointments for treatments and simulations, deliver prescribed therapeutic doses of radiation in accordance with physicians' orders and instructions, correctly prepare, operate and monitor radiotherapy equipment and accessories, take portal vision films to confirm treatment volumes, coordinate services with nursing staff, clerical staff and transporters.
  • Pre-Treatment Preparation: Operate simulator for localization of tumor size and volume, collect information on all physical factors for computerized treatment plan, perform simple dosimetry calculations in emergencies for treatment.
  • Patient Care Activities: Provides safety measures for patients, recognize all types of radiation reactions and refer to proper medical personnel, communicate with staff and contracted personnel concerning the calibration, maintenance and repair of equipment.
  • Administrative Responsibilities: Maintain accurate and current treatment records.
  • Teaching Activities: Instruct residents, students and others in the use of radiation therapy equipment.

Special Notes: Shift: Per-Diem. All Hospital positions are subject to changes in pass days and shifts as necessary. This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair. Please note Stony Brook Medicine is a smoke free environment.
