Required Qualifications: Minimum education level is a Bachelor's degree with concentration/major/specialization in Anesthesia Technology from an ASATT accredited program. Minimum of 1 year of documented clinical training in Anesthesia Technology in Anesthesia Technology in an ASATT accredited program. A minimum of three professional letters of recommendation from clinical supervisors or clinical program faculty will be required.
Preferred Qualifications:

Brief Description of Duties:
  • Assist the Anesthesiology team in the physiological monitoring and administration of anesthesia; in the preparation of drugs, fluids, anesthetic agents and equipment ancillary to operative intervention and procedures requiring anesthesia.
  • Set up, calibrate, operate and maintain monitoring and anesthesia equipment in advance of procedure start time. Prepare and label syringes of anesthetic and adjuvant drugs. Prepare airway equipment and suction set up. Set up IV infusions, blood warmer, rapid infuser and transducers as requested. Prime antibiotic prophylaxis and IMED for pressor drugs as instructed.
  • Assist the Anesthesiology team in the transport of patients from the exchange or holding area to the operating room or procedure suite and to the post anesthesia care of intensive care units. Assist in patient positioning for anesthesia procedures as directed.
  • Start intravenous access as instructed under the direct supervision of the Anesthesia team. Apply the noninvasive monitors on the patient (including pulse oximetry, EKG, blood pressure cuff, BIS monitor, nerve stimulator). Set up warming blanket apparatus and adjust in accordance with the instructions to regulate proper temperature.
  • Assist the Anesthesiology team in performing complex medical procedures (arterial line, CVP, Swan-Gan catheter insertion); assist in the administration of anesthesia and monitor patient responses as directed; obtain arterial blood specimen form the arterial line and send for analysis as instructed.
  • Participate in Anesthesia CQI Team to improve the efficiency of patient care and equipment management in the operating room.
  • Provide instruction to staff and student technologists on anesthesia equipment and procedures. Provide supervision, training and evaluation of TH Anesthesia Associates as requested by the supervising medical staff.

Special Notes: Shift: Full-time day 6am-230pm flesible position. All Hospital positions are subject to changes in pass days and shifts as necessary. This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair. Please note Stony Brook Medicine is a smoke free environment.
