Required Qualifications: High School Diploma/GED. Three years of experience directly related to medical services. Ability to perform vital signs, spirometry, and visual acuity testing. EKG certified and/or Medical Assistant certified.
Preferred Qualifications: Prior work experience in ambulatory care setting along with excellent organizational and communication skills.

Brief Description of Duties: Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, the Patient Care Specialist will perform the following job duties:
  • Perform electrocardiograms, urine testing, finger stick glucose testing and spirometry.
  • Take patients to exam rooms, record vital signs (blood pressure, pulse rate, height and weight) and take notes on reason for visit.
  • Prepare trays and supplies; prepare patient as instructed, and dispose of supplies as per infection control requirements.
  • Assist with setting up and preparing the patient and equipment for specialized procedures performed by other health care professionals.
  • Provide supplies to patients and instructions for exams such as stool occult blood test.
  • Ensure that urine and blood specimens are collected correctly and delivered in a timely manner.
  • Enter patient data into the Electronic Medical Record.
  • Participate in CQI projects and maintain unit for JCAHO, DOH readiness.

Other Duties: As assigned to include light secretarial work.

Special Notes: This is a part time position, 24 hours per week, days and hours vary. The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. *This position is located at Tech Park, East Setauket, NY.
