Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree. Three years of full time progressively responsible purchasing experience. Supervisory experience. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to plan and prioritize work. Exceptional organizational, analytical and problem solving skills with a strong attention to detail. Experience with strategic resourcing. Project Management experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree. Purchasing experience at a public institution. Purchasing experience at a University or college. Experience with MWBE requirements.

Brief Description of Duties: The Purchasing Manager is responsible for the management of the buying staff which includes but is not limited to Purchasing Agents, Assistant Purchasing Agents, Purchasing Clerks, Clerical Specialists, etc. The selected candidate will:
  • Responsible to ensure the buying staff processes all purchase requests in a timely and efficient manner and in conformance with SUNY, State and University rules and regulations.
  • Manage buying staff to maximize purchases from NYS Certified Minority & Women Owned Enterprises (MWBE).
  • Oversee the responses to requests from customers (internal and external) in a timely manner for technical product information and research.
  • Manage the processing of large dollar and more complex purchasing transactions directly.
  • Meet with user departments on a regular basis and provide assistance, guidance and instructions in the preparation of requisitions and bid specifications.
  • Work directly with all departments to support new initiatives and products, as well as new directives and mandates as required and released by New York State.
  • Manage suppliers cost, quality and delivery performance while assuring an adequate source of supply.
  • Recommend standards for vendor selection and assist in the development of strategic procurement plans.
  • Provide support to departments for strategic and supplier performance issues.
  • Manage capital equipment projects for new buildings and maintain the necessary documentation and files.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Special Notes: This is a full time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Occasional travel to satellite campuses may be required.
