THIS POSTING IS NOT CURRENT !!!Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree. Two years of experience working in a research laboratory facility. Basic knowledge of mechanical and building systems. Experience in a supervisory capacity. Must be physically able to lift items weighing at least fifty pounds.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree or PhD in Marine Science or related field. Two or more years of experience working in a marine or related science laboratory facility. Two or more years directly related professional experience to include facility management and administration. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Preference will be given to candidates demonstrating the following: experience working with freshwater or seawater systems; knowledge and experience regarding lab safety inspections and regulation compliance; knowledge and experience with protocols for animal care; knowledge and experience with procurement processes.
Brief Description of Duties: The Marine Science Center Manager will have overall responsibility for the management and operation of the Southampton Marine Science Center facilities and multi-purpose laboratories in the Center. The position will serve SoMAS’ education, research, and outreach programs in the Center and activities at Southampton. The Manager will report to the Director of Southampton SoMAS Academic Programs and will oversee and monitor graduate, undergraduate, faculty and staff activities within the facility, and will co-supervise a part-time staff member who assists with wet-lab management. Facilities include: A new $8M marine laboratory that contains a large flowing, temperature controlled seawater laboratory, three teaching classrooms/laboratories, several research laboratories, and a water quality laboratory.
Overall Facility Administration:
Special Notes: This is a full time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Night and weekend work will be required. Occasional travel may be required to local meetings as needed. *This position is located at Stony Brook Southampton.
