Required Qualifications: Cancer Registry Certification (Certified Tumor Registrar) with Associate's Degree. Knowledge of cancer coding systems (ICD-03, AJCC-TNM, FORDS, MP/H, SEER and Collaborative Staging System), Excellent computer data entry and writing skills with ability to process high-volume work load. Minimum one year experience in hospital or healthcare setting. Extensive knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.
Preferred Qualifications: Cancer Registry Certification with an associate or baccalaureate degree level of education. Previous experience in cancer registry setting, with advanced level of computer skills and knowledge of current NYS Cancer Registry edit metafile.

Brief Description of Duties:
  • Abstracting-accurately recording and coding required data into a software program to create a viable, reliable database. All this in accordance with ICD-O3, AJCC-TNM Staging Manual, Collaborative Stage, NAACCR, SEER Multiple Primary and Histology Rules, as well as specifications set down by the American College of Surgeons/Commission Cancer and the NYS Cancer Registry.
  • Casefinding-locating all internal and external sources of cancer related patient encounters, including physician based hospital practices and determining cancer eligibility. Includes all cancer related pathology reports; all radiation and medical oncology consults and treatment summaries, all inpatient admissions and outpatient encounters utilizing ICD-9 cancer codes, all cancer related death certificates, all tumor board cases and lists provided to the registry for inclusion and reporting by hospital based physician practices.
  • Quality Review-keeping on top of yearly standards-setter changes in collecting data, and subsequent software changes and downloads, with the correction of any errors, so that all submitted data is accurate and timely.

Special Notes: Shift: Per-Diem. All Hospital positions are subject to changes in pass days and shifts as necessary.
