Required Qualifications: High School Diploma/GED. Two years of full time, clerical experience. In lieu of two years of full-time experience, applicable experience gained through a combination of internships and/or temporary assignments totaling two years will be considered. Good interpersonal and customer relation skills, detail oriented, and organization skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Medical billing related experience in a physician's office or graduation from a medical billing program. Computerized billing experience and familiarity with third party policies.

Brief Description of Duties: The incumbent will serve as a Billing Account Representative assigned to process billing for a clinical department.
  • Clerical work in a computerized billing office.
  • Interact with physicians, the practice manager, and the Clinical Practice Management Plan (CPMP) supervisory and administrative staff regarding billing and other related issues.
  • Interact with third party representatives. Must be thoroughly familiar with third party policies.
  • Discuss with patients, via telephone, collection of payments, setting up budget plans, and insurance coverage.
  • Handle phone calls regarding explanation of benefits.
  • Determine the most efficient way to resolve issues; take appropriate action (e.g. researching discrepancies, obtaining additional information, contacting third party, etc.) to resolve account conflicts.
  • Troubleshoot special projects related to coverage, carrier, etc. as needed. Projects may be assigned at the request of the Physician, Practice Manager, or other CPMP staff.

Other Duties: All duties as required for the handling of billing, collection of forms, accounts receivable, and preparation of data processing materials as well as input and output functions as required by CPMP.

Special Notes: This is a full time position, 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. *This position is located at Tech Park, East Setauket.
