Required Qualifications: Current NY State RN License and Bachelor degree in Nursing. Two years of experience in Hematology/Oncology. Demonstrate excellent organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Masters degree. Oncology experience. Demonstrate working knowledge and good understanding of database systems e.g. Access and Excel.

Brief Description of Duties:
  • Coordination of the transplant process including; educating the patient/family, planning and scheduling of medical tests, interdisciplinary departmental collaboration and obtaining prior insurance approval for transplant.
  • Assumes responsibility and accountability for planning and evaluating the coordination and management of transplant and pre-transplant candidates.
  • Assumes responsibility for the coordination of all National Marrow Donor Program's Stem Cell Collections.
  • Completes the data collection tool for the evaluation of eligibility for transplant, and reviews the data collected with the attending physician.
  • Ensures that each patient understands and voluntarily signs the consent for transplant.
  • Reviews and distributes all results of pre-BMT testing to BMT Team.
  • Assures tests are complete and reviewed by a transplant physician prior to patient's admission to BMT Unit. Works closely with Financial Coordinator to obtain insurance approval for procedures.
  • Coordinates the schedules of stem cell harvest, transplant admissions and stem cell transplant.
  • Review, learn and understand all applicable operating standards and regulations. Must assist in the implementation of such standards and ensure strict compliance with these standards.
  • Performs other related duties as required or directed.

Special Notes: Full-time day position, 8:00AM - 4:30PM. All Hospital positions are subject to changes in pass days and shifts as necessary. This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair. Please note Stony Brook Medicine is a smoke free environment.
