Required Qualifications: Board Certification in Anesthesiology with a minimum of five years professional Anesthesia experience post-certification. Completion of an accredited fellowship in Cardiac Anesthesia. Current licensure or eligibility for licensure in New York State.
Preferred Qualifications: Candidates who would qualify for academic rank of Associate Professor or above based upon record of accomplishments, as determined by Stony Brook University School of Medicine criteria (School of Medicine's Criteria for Appointment, Promotion and Tenure ). Professional experience/proven performance involving administrative responsibilities coupled with evidence of research commitment and productivity.
Responsibilities & Requirements: The candidate will serve as the Chief of the Cardiac Anesthesia Division in the Department of Anesthesiology. This is a key position with responsibility for coordinating all clinical, academic and administrative activities in the Division and also promoting the professional development of its faculty members.
In addition, the candidate will provide anesthetic care to patients undergoing surgery or other procedures and will provide consultation before and after the anesthetic procedure. The candidate will be actively engaged in the instruction and/or supervision of medical students, resident physicians and certified registered nurse anesthetists. He/she will also participate, often in a leading role, in the departmental activities that pertain to undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate education. An active role in clinical and/or basic research will be strongly encouraged. As a member of the executive staff, the candidate will be expected to play an important
role in administrative aspects pertaining to the initiation of grant support, design of research projects and organizational aspects related to the clinical and educational goals of the entire department.
Special Notes: Eligibility for tenure will be based upon applicant's qualifications and experience. This is a full time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.
