Required Qualifications: High School Diploma/GED. Two years of full time medical office experience with strong customer service skills. Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of medical terminology and managed care, referral paperwork. Experience with scheduling appointments or familiarity with the IDX scheduling system. Good computer skills.

Brief Description of Duties: Under the direction of the Nursing Administrator and Office Manager, the Clerk II will be responsible for the following job duties:
  • Answer the phones and take accurate messages in electronic medical records application; greeting and registering patients.
  • Scheduling patient appointments and testing in IDX, complete all documentation including consultation requests and prior authorizations.
  • Handling pre-certifications for tests, procedures and medications; obtain insurance referrals.
  • Process medical record requests and scan documents into Electronic Medical Record system.
  • Preparing charts for clinic; filing, faxing and mailing. Print and mail consult letters from EMR.
  • Update and ensure proper scheduling of physician appointments.

Other Duties: As assigned.

Special Notes: This is a full time position, 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Night and weekend work is required. *This position is located at Tech Park, East Setauket, NY.
