Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering (BME) or related field. In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, must have at least 10 years of related experience. Minimum five years experience in a BME Service Management/Supervisory role overseeing all aspects of BME including, but not limited to, troubleshooting, repairs, calibrations, preventive maintenance, equipment/service database management, and employee mentoring. Excellent managerial, communication and customer service skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree. Minimum ten year's experience in a BME Service Management/Supervisory role. Experience in a hospital/academic medical center. AAMI and CBET certifications.

Brief Description of Duties:
  • Management of all BME technicians and BME Operating Room/Clinic supervisor, including scheduling, assignment of duties, mentoring, evaluations, recruitment, and training.
  • Scheduling of all equipment preventive maintenance and repairs, including monitoring of progress.
  • Ensuring all life support equipment is always 100% compliant.
  • Determine proper staffing levels to provide equipment support services throughout the hospital and off-site locations. Distribute personnel and delegate work orders as required based on availability and criticality. Review and report on productivity and efficiency work data for all staff.
  • Scheduling of incoming inspections of new equipment and coordinate delivery and installation with end user departments. Evaluation of equipment prior to purchase.
  • Ensure that work requests are being responded to appropriately and are performed within established guidelines.
  • Lead hospital projects from a BME perspective, with direction from the Director.
  • Participate as a member of the BME Management Team and in the BME Management Team decision making process. Participate in developing/updating of departmental and administrative policies and procedures. Assist with departmental and capital budgeting processes.
  • Represent BME on various committees as required.

Special Notes: Shift: Full time day position 830am-5pm. Please note Stony Brook Medicine is a smoke free environment. All hospital positions are subject to changes in pass days and shifts as necessary. This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair.
