Required Qualifications: Associates Degree. In lieu of degree, two years of progressively responsible full-time experience in an education and/or advocacy setting. Four years of full-time experience working in a medical or advocacy setting with direct patient/client contact to educate, counsel or advocate for patients/clients. Must possess excellent communication, interpersonal and strong organizational skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and data entry. Ability to prioritize and work independently.
Preferred Qualifications: Additional experience engaging participants and motivating participation. Familiarity with the consenting process and HIPAA regulations. Knowledge of electronic scheduling. Familiarity with World Trade Center Health Program benefits.

Brief Description of Duties: The Retention Specialist/Member Advocate reports to the Outreach/Retention Manager and is primarily responsible for:
  • Acting in coordination with other clinical staff to ensure that each member at our clinic has a positive experience during the monitoring visit, feels that their individual concerns have been attended to in a caring and efficient manner and that there is an open line of communication between the patient and the clinic.
  • Work with the Senior Retention/Outreach Specialist to schedule and engage hard-to-reach and inactive members, to include: Assist in location of lost members using internet search services. Reach out to hard-to-reach and non-active members via phone calls and letters; provide Program education to members and motivate them return to the Program.
  • Assist with mailing letters to patients to encourage participation in the Program, Assist Senior Retention/Outreach Specialist with retention tasks that allow for the evaluation of retention efforts, such as, the implementation of a member survey, recording member status, and other member data in the retention database; assess retention efforts, and the implementation of a retention/outreach surveys concerns.
  • Log all interactions with members into the Member Retention database.

Other Duties: As assigned, including providing back-up scheduling support, scheduling members using IDX, sending all paperwork to the patients prior to their scheduled visits.

Special Notes: These are full time positions, 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. *One position is located in Islandia, NY and one is located in Mineola, NY. Travel between clinical sites will be required for this position.
