Required Qualifications: High School Diploma/GED. Three years of recent experience in a medical care setting.
Preferred Qualifications: Certification as a Medical Assistant. Dermatology and/or surgical experience.

Brief Description of Duties: The Patient Care Specialist should have experience in a medical care setting along with excellent organizational and communication skills with the ability to multitask. The selected candidate should have the ability to work as team player in providing quality patient care.
  • Coordinate patient flow. Review patient chart to anticipate required needs of physician. Follow through to prepare patient/set up accordingly.
  • Assist physicians in routine procedures (i.e. biopsies, set up cultures, KOH tzank preps).
  • Maintain patient examination rooms and instruments, including restocking supplies, as necessary. Prepare instruments for sterilization for Medical Derm and Derm Surgery. Maintain inventory of supplies. Assist in procurement, as necessary.
  • Process specimens as per Department Guidelines.
  • Document laboratory requisitions and laboratory results. Access Computer programs to obtain results, as necessary.

Other Duties: As assigned.

Special Notes: This is a full time position, 40 hours per week. The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. *This position is located at Tech Park, East Setauket, NY.
