Required Qualifications: Associate's degree. In lieu of the degree, two years of directly related full time experience or a combination of higher education and experience totaling two years may be considered. Experience in a professional video production environment. Knowledge of studio and field cameras and video editing.
Preferred Qualifications: Associate's degree in a related field, BA/BS, Bachelors degree in a related field. Two years of full time experience in professional television and/or theater. A demo reel demonstrating ability.

Brief Description of Duties: The Production Assistant will serve on the production team providing technical support requiring technical skills, creativity, and the ability to carry out assigned tasks in a live production environment. These positions are hourly positions limited by project assignment.
  • Production (including Pre and Post).
  • Meet with the clientele and supervisor to plan production and determine project requirements where needed.
  • As a member of the in-house production crew, the incumbent will be required to some or all of the following: operate a video camera in the field and studio, edit video, construct staging and sets, hang and focus lighting, program and operate a lighting console, operate an audio mixer/PA system, operate video and audio monitors, operate graphics systems, operate audio/video recorders and players, safely lay cable, load and unload equipment, floor/stage manager.
  • Expected to be able to operate more than one type of equipment or perform other duties in addition to their primary task. For small projects not requiring a full staff, incumbent may be asked to act as director or technical director, videographer, editor, projectionist, graphics, tele-prompting, script writing, lighting and sound.
  • Assist in the delivery and setup of field/studio productions and special events. Receive direct assignments from supervisor and carry out the assigned tasks in a live, production environment.
  • Meet with client during process as needed and adjust processes appropriately.
  • Digitize footage, edit material, create appropriate graphics and animations, create master, and distribute copies as needed.
  • Position requires heavy lifting and ability to work in confined spaces, from tall ladders or scaffolding.
Other responsibilities:
  • Site survey: Tour event location with client, producer or contractors in preparation of program.
  • Production meetings: when appropriate, attend production meetings.
  • Check equipment before and after events. Return equipment to appropriate storage. Report issues to Media Coordinator and Engineering Staff.
  • Keep production facilities and office space clean and organized.
  • Assist in preparation on reports and main logs of project hours and materials.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Multimedia Production Coordinator or Director and Educational Technologies.

Special Notes: These are temporary, hourly positions, days and hours vary. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Night and weekend work is required. Some travel will be required to Stony Brook Manhattan, Southampton or other Long Island sites.
