Required Qualifications: Doctoral degree or foreign equivalent. Three years of research experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience in collaborative and multi-disciplinary research. Experience in material synthesis as well as in characterization techniques (i.e. x-ray crystallography, thermal, magnetic, transport measurements, neutron scattering, spectroscopic). Excellent written and verbal skills. Ability to interact effectively with diverse groups. Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the advanced synthesis techniques. Previous publication record.

Brief Description of Duties: Stony Brook University has a Senior Postdoctoral Associate position available in the Physics and Astronomy department. This position will participate in multi-disciplinary collaboration that combines exploratory synthesis with realistic electronic structure calculations and advances spectroscopic probes to discover superconducting materials. The Senior Postdoctoral Associate will develop and implement research plans, including methods of testing and analysis and provide theoretical insight and present problem-solving to achieve and improve the objectives of this research.
  • Independently perform advanced synthesis techniques.
  • Independently prepare new classes of highly correlated materials to be used in synthesis techniques.
  • Develop and implement research plans. Develop and implement new methods of testing and analysis on the related research.
  • Provide assistance and training for graduate students in the use of the equipment and techniques.
  • Independently collect data and write scientific papers and reports on research results for publication, and present these results at scientific meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Special Notes: This is a full time position. The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding.
