Required Qualifications: Registered Nurse, physician assistant, perfusionist or other clinical care provider with three or more years nursing/clinical experience. Project management skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with diverse populations of healthcare workers is critical. Basic computer skills including spreadsheet and word processing.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in nursing or other advanced clinical education, cardiac nursing/clinical care experience, clinical chart review and abstraction experience, three or more years of performance improvement experience. Experience interpreting and complying with requirements of regulatory and/or accrediting agencies.

Brief Description of Duties: The Cardiothoracic Surgery Clinical Data Manager will share the responsibility of chart abstraction and quality improvement activities related to the New York State Department of Health Cardiac Surgery Reporting System, Society of Thoracic Surgeons Adult Cardiac Surgery, Society of Thoracic Surgeons Thoracic Surgery, and National Cardiovascular Data Registry Transcatheter Valve Technology registries. The primary focus of these registries is to improve outcomes for patients undergoing cardiac surgery procedures at Stony Brook University Hospital.
  • Chart abstraction to collect clinical data to support the New York State Department of Health Cardiac Surgery Reporting System, Society of Thoracic Surgeons Adult Cardiac Surgery, Society of Thoracic Surgeons Thoracic Surgery, and National Cardiovascular Data Registry Transcatheter Valve Technology registries.
  • Work with the Heart Institute, other care areas, Clinical Informatics, and IT as necessary to enhance clinical data capture and analysis, which may require flexible scheduling to accommodate physician participation.
  • Identify performance improvement opportunities and generate supporting analyses.
  • Integration of regulatory requirements into clinical practice by working with multidisciplinary teams and clinical service groups.
  • Ensure validity of reported data.
  • Entry of abstracted data into on-line application.
  • Provide assistance with the development and utilization of clinical benchmarking tools.
  • Provide guidance and support on clinical topics to other DSS personnel.

Special Notes: Shift: Full-time day 830am-5pm position. Please note Stony Brook Medicine is a smoke free environment. All Hospital positions are subject to changes in pass days and shifts as necessary. This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair.
