Required Qualifications: AAS in Electronics Technology or Biomedical engineering Technology, or comparable military equivalent will be considered as fulfilling the educational requirements. Seven years' experience in the Biomedical Engineering field with a minimum of two years dialysis maintenance experience to include all pertinent water testing and regulatory record keeping.
Preferred Qualifications: BS in Biomedical Engineering or Electronic Engineering, or the equivalent military training, and ten years experience with a minimum of five years dialysis repair and maintenance experience.

Brief Description of Duties:
  • Open dialysis unit at 5:30am required to take on/call re-call shifts.
  • Prepare dialysis machines for the first series of patients of the day - Perform system check on reverse osmosis machine and complete log book. Prepare bicarbonate. Prime loop of bicarbonate and bring machines into conductivity. Prime dialysis machines. Conduct systems check on dialysis machines.
  • Support Nursing Staff- Review with charge RN, patient schedule for acute bedside dialysis treatment and develop timeline. Prepare bedside machines for readiness for the first series of patients of the day.
  • Scheduled maintenance- Check all equipment designated for evaluation/repair/preventative maintenance. Correctly dispose of equipment that has achieved "end of life" status..
  • Dialysis Water - Send monthly samples to the lab for culture and sensitivity of dialysate, permeate, bicarbonate, tap water and carbon filter. Prepare samples for transport to outside lab. Review water quality results with BME Service Manage and Medical Director to ensure compliance with AAMI standards for water quality for ESRD patients, log and graph same
  • BME Review - Post reports to Service Manager BME Department. Participate in training programs as per BME director. Evaluate new products/services as per BME.

Special Notes: Full-time day shift 530AM - 200PM. All Hospital positions are subject to changes in pass days and shifts as necessary. Please note Stony Brook Medicine is a smoke free environment.
