Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree. In lieu of degree, four years of directly related full time experience, or a combination of higher education and experience totaling four years may be considered. Four years of prior full time employment experience to include computer programming, data analysis, business analysis, designing databases and documenting systems. Experience designing and working with databases. Strong background in data analysis. Experience documenting system processes. Ability to formulate programming code in more than one programming language, which should include MDX, VB, C, C++ and/or C#. Knowledge of SQL. Experience in understanding business processes including working with business users. Experience with Windows operating systems. Excellent communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree, preferably with a degree in a technical discipline or related area, or advanced degree. Experience in or with the following: designing and working with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or later databases; data warehouse databases and data warehousing tools; developing relational or STAR-schema data warehouse models; PeopleSoft HR or Campus Solutions. Experience designing Analysis Services databases or other OLAP cube databases; ETL tools such as SQL Server Integration Services; designing dashboards and scorecards; designing and developing reports using SQL Server Reporting Services, ProClarity or other reporting tools; maintaining SharePoint sites. Experience programming through the full development lifecycle.

Brief Description of Duties: This position is intended to expand the reach and utility of the core Human Resources and Student data warehouse systems that serves the university. This is a technical position and requires knowledge and experience modifying and developing relational and multi-dimensional OLAP databases. This position will focus on Student and Human Resources data systems to assist enrollment management and administrative offices of the university. The selected candidate will:
  • Support, develop and expand on existing SQL Server and OLAP data warehouses for the campus business intelligence efforts. Analyze data needs, data sources, reporting needs in order to develop and support complex data models and data transformation load rules. Code programs to load and maintain the warehouse and document the contents of the warehouse and any written programs. Assure correctness and quality of the data loaded.
  • Support the front-end reporting environment and SharePoint portal to allow the user community access to ad-hoc tools, analyses and reports. Develop complex reports beyond the capabilities of the ad-hoc reporting tools or end user. As needed, assemble and format data used for external state and federal reporting. Ensure that security controls are in place to authorize access to ad-hoc data analyses and reports.
  • Develop, implement and analyze university business processes in the data warehouse. Collect business requirements and needs, develop and test code in compliance with departmental and university standards, provide effective documentation or communication during the development process, complete tasks in a timely manner. Collaborate with colleagues on technical and business processes to ensure the correctness and accuracy of the data in the BI environment.
  • Monitor automated systems for correctness and efficiency. Advise lower level programmer/analysts in the translation of standards to user groups and in applying them to new systems. Oversee the installation of new systems and recommend enhancements to existing systems.
  • Provide support in the operation of the Information Systems function including: Act as Supervising Programmer/Analyst in his or her absence. Serve as liaison between the department and its users. Assist users in accessing and utilizing their data. Recommend new or modified standards and procedures. Provide technical leadership to lower level programmer/analysts. Apply state and university policies and procedures to programs and systems. Advise management of potential breaches of data and system security. Assure compliance with applicable security policies.
  • Ensure and maintain that security profiles and security controls are in place to authorize access to the data warehouse and business intelligence reporting system.

Special Notes: This is a full time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Night and weekend work for system upgrades is required. Occasional travel to attend conferences and training will be required.
