Required Qualifications: BA/BS. In lieu of degree, four years of directly related experience or a combination of higher education and experience totaling four years may be considered. Three years of full time database maintenance including design, hands-on implementation, and support, also including at least two years experience managing a critical database server environment. Strong planning, risk mitigation, and problem solving skills. Experience with MySQL databases and MSSQL databases. Experience with SQL programming against MSSQL/MySQL. Experience troubleshooting database and query problems. Experience troubleshooting database (access, network, etc.) and query problems that arise from applications. Experience working with Linux operating systems and Microsoft Windows servers running MySQL and MSSQL databases respectively. Knowledge and exposure to primary/secondary and master/master database configurations. Experience configuring continuous backup strategies on MySQL/MSSQL systems. Experience maintaining the following: IIS 7 web server, SQL Server 2005-2008 database, Windows 2008 and SSL certificates for IIS7. Excellent communication skills. Project management skills and proven ability on meeting time lines. Ability to work well independently and as a team.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s or Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or Engineering. Experience designing/implementing/managing/maintaining primary/secondary and master/master database configurations. Practical knowledge of Linux and Windows system administration. Experience with python and/or perl. Experience with bash/shell scripting and Windows dos/batch programming. Experience working with StudyTrax. Knowledge and Experience of DJANGO and other web technologies and frameworks.

Brief Description of Duties: The Senior Database Administrator will be responsible for ensuring that all database systems are in compliance with FDA and other regulatory body requirements.
  • Responsible for HIPAA-compliant database administration.
  • Responsible for maintaining data integrity and security on all database systems.
  • Will be tasked with implementing/maintaining/managing master/master and primary/secondary database configurations. Will work with the IT Manager and the Research Scientists to implement proper application.
  • Work directly with IT Manager to ensure proper interface between database, software, and IT network.
  • Maintain, upgrade, and improve implemented databases.
  • Design and implement new MySQL database tables to be filled and queried.
  • Maintain the DJANGO front end of MySQL database for quality control and ease of querying.
  • Implement new algorithms for accessing, querying and displaying data.
  • Ensure that databases are regularly backed up and all data is secure.
  • Provide differing levels of database access to lab members.
  • Responsible for arranging and ensuring proper data acquisition and storage between multiple institutions working on the same research project/grant.
  • Responsible for the migration of an MSSQL database containing subject demographic and clinical information from one institution to another.
  • Responsible for the migration of MySQL servers and all database servers from one institution to another.
  • Troubleshoots as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Special Notes: This is a full time position. The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding.
