Required Qualifications: High School Diploma/GED. Two years of full time clerical experience. In lieu of experience, demonstrated effectiveness with assigned functions through internship of an equivalent duration may be considered. Good interpersonal, organizational, and customer relation skills, and detail oriented. Thorough familiarity with third party policies.
Preferred Qualifications: Two years of experience related with medical billing in a Physician's office or graduation from a medical billing program. Computerized billing experience.

Brief Description of Duties: The Clerk II will work in a computerized billing office. This individual will serve as the Billing Account Representative assigned to process billing for a clinical department.
  • All duties as required for the handling of billing, collection of forms, accounts receivable, and preparation of any data processing materials.
  • Interact with Physicians, the Practice Manager, and the Clinical Practice Management Plan (CPMP) supervisory and administrative staff regarding billing and other related issues.
  • Interact with third party representatives on all related billing and departmental issues.
  • Discuss with patients issues based on collection of payments, setting up budget plans and insurance coverage.
  • Handle incoming phone calls and any explanation of benefits. Determine the best way to resolve any issues that arise in the quickest possible manner and take appropriate action such as researching discrepancies, obtaining additional information, contacting any third parties, etc. to resolve account problems.
  • Troubleshoot special projects related to coverage, carriers as needed. Projects may be assigned at the request of the Physician, Practice Manager, or other CPMP staff.

Other Duties: Any input and output functions as required by CPMP.

Special Notes: This is a full-time position, 37.5 hours per week, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA non-exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.
