Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in Sustainability, Environmental Studies or closely related discipline. Two years teaching experience at the college level.
Preferred Qualifications: Applicants with an interest in, or experience with environmental justice are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates with expertise in two or more of the following areas will be given the highest consideration: environmental and earth system science; global sustainability; resilience; risk and vulnerability; human-environment interactions; scenario analysis; sustainability policy and global politics; urban social-ecological systems; food and water use; ecological design; agricultural ecology; and transportation. Training and supervision of teaching assistants supervising research/internships and academic advising experience. Curricular development, relevant research experience and publication record will also be evaluated. A record of/or potential for successful research funding.
Responsibilities & Requirements: This full-time position will include teaching and mentoring primarily at the undergraduate level. Collaborating with interdisciplinary sustainability research and teaching teams within the program and performing university, program and community service. The mission in the Sustainability Studies Program at Stony Brook University is to educate a new generation of scholars and practitioners and invigorate the field of sustainability to address and find solutions to our most pressing environmental global challenges.
Special Notes: This is a non-tenure track, three year renewable position. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Anticipated start date: August, 2014.
