Stony Brook University’s Simons Center for Geometry and Physics is a research think-tank devoted to furthering fundamental knowledge in geometry and theoretical physics, especially knowledge at the interface of these two disciplines.

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in Mathematics, Theoretical Physics or a related field. Demonstrated administrative experience in a scientific context and a proven research record.
Preferred Qualifications: Record of significant academic leadership and achievement at, or above, Department Chairperson level or equivalent (3 years). Experience in building public and/or private partnerships. Experience in securing and/or administering external funding. Experience in strategic planning, program assessment and/or accreditation. Evidence of working effectively with constituents.
Responsibilities & Requirements: The Simons Center for Geometry and Physics at Stony Brook University is searching for a Deputy Director. The Center is an endowed research center that sponsors programs and workshops in Mathematics and Theoretical Physics and brings researchers from around the world to the Center for periods of one week to one year. The role of the Deputy Director is to oversee the visitor programs and workshops from the initial fashioning of proposals and the decisions of which proposals to fund, to working with the organizers as they put the program together and select participants, to reviewing and evaluating the programs after they are over. The Deputy Director will work closely with the Director, the Chief Administrative Officer of the Center, and the staff responsible for supporting the visiting activities. The Deputy Director is expected to spend half time doing research in mathematics or physics.
Special Notes: This is a non-tenure track position. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Anticipated Start Date: September 1, 2012. The position is for a fixed term, which is normally two to three years but is possibly longer; the term is negotiable. *Applications will be considered on a rolling basis until the positions are filled.
