Required Qualifications: PhD in Engineering/STEM discipline. Prior experience working in an industrial research laboratory, managing university/industrial contracts, and drafting project/progress reports. Prior experience using rheological and thermo analytical instrumentation for characterization of fuels and fuel products. Knowledge of materials processing technology, micro fabrication, confocal and electron microscopy. Ability to monitor usage, manage billing and track accounts handling fees.Preferred Qualifications: PhD degree in the Physical Sciences or Engineering.
Brief Description of Duties: The Industrial Project Scientist will operate, maintain, and upgrade thermal and rheological instrumentation in the Advanced Energy Center (AEC) experimental facility and become the primary liaison for AEC/industrial collaborative research and execution of testing contracts.
- Execute collaborative research and testing contracts with industry. Submit quarterly reports, keep records of billable time and submit invoices for work performed, monitor compliance of industrial partners with EH&S and university regulations.
- Maintain and operate, AEC fuels and energy materials characterization facility; this includes thermo-analytical and rheological instrumentation, electron, optical, and confocal microscopes, as well as materials processing equipment for resist, electro-spinning, and power determination. Assist outside/inside users of the instrumentation, keep records of instrument and facility use, generate invoices for users, and manage budget for facility upkeep.
- Engage in independent research and/or industrial and community outreach activities related to the growth and development of the facility; this can include energy related research, finding innovative methods for using of the AEC equipment, running seminars to promote industrial outreach and community education of AEC activities, submit grants proposals for external research funding or facility time at national laboratories or participate in professional conferences.
Special Notes: This is a full time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. *This position is located at Research and Development Park.
