Required Qualifications: Associate's degree in Biology or closely related field. Two years full time laboratory experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Biology or closely related field. Experience with DNA cloning and cell culture techniques.
Brief Description of Duties: The incumbent will perform basic research on viruses and virus vaccines as directed by a supervising scientist. This job will involve a range of molecular, genetic and biochemical techniques. The incumbent will be trained as needed in the procedures and use of equipment; prior experience is critical. H/she will present research results. A willingness to work with small animals and infectious agents is expected.
- Molecular cloning of plasmid DNA's, preparation and extraction of DNA for experimentation.
- Conduct experiments in genetic engineering of poliovirus replicons and recombinant protein expression systems.
- Produce various replicon vaccine candidates in tissue culture.
- Test vaccines in small animal research models.
- Produce and maintain various recombinant mammalian cell lines.
- General laboratory maintenance duties and support functions for senior scientist.

Special Notes: This is a full time position, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
