305.00 Vice President For Research

The Vice President for Research is responsible for the advancement of the University’s research mission, providing assistance to faculty for pre-award and post-award aspects of sponsored work, including the identification of potential resources, submission of proposals to sponsors, management of funds, assistance in the sponsor reporting process, and the management of intellectual property arising from these activities.

The Vice President provides leadership and support for the development of multi-disciplinary initiatives seeking major funding and manages institutional nomination processes for highly competitive programs. This office is responsible for regulatory compliance for all research programs on campus and oversees the Standing Committee on Investigator Disclosure and Conflict of Interest. In addition, it coordinates University outreach programs to foster economic development, especially as it involves use of technologies developed at Stony Brook.

The Vice President for Research also serves as the Research Foundation's Operations Manager at SBU for administering campus’ funds in support of research and scholarly activity. The Vice President reports to the President and works closely with the Provost and the Vice President for Health Sciences on all matters that pertain to research on the campus and is the principal advocate both within and outside the University on research matters.
