The Chief Executive Officer and Director of Stony Brook University Medical Center is responsible for this research hospital that serves the health care needs of the residents of Long Island and provides training for physicians, nurses, social workers, dentists, and allied health professionals. As an educational resource for students enrolled in the schools of the Health Sciences Center it provides training for residents in approved specialty and subspecialty programs, as well as general practice and dental medicine programs. The hospital has established centers of excellence in cancer, heart and neonatology.
