Awards, Recognitions and Ceremonies

President Awards
The President’s Award and The Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, Librarianship, and Professional Service, as well as the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching as Part-Time Faculty; President’s Award for Excellence in Diversity and Affirmative Action and the President’s Award for Excellence in Classified Service are awarded at the annual University Convocation. The Office of the President distributes calls for nominations and applications.

The President’s Mini-Grants for Innovative Teaching are designed to recognize projects that will enrich student experience in the classroom. The President’s Mini-Grants for Departmental Diversity Initiatives may include curricula innovations, faculty development or student projects.



Service Awards
Individuals who have been employed at SBU for twenty years or more are recognized for their contributions at an annual awards ceremony and dinner hosted by the President.

School for Professional Development "Great Teacher" Award
The Glass/Kreuter Great Teacher award was established to recognize individuals teaching in SPD whose ability and commitment to teaching is judged superlative. This monetary award honors Dr. Bentley Glass, Professor Emeritus and former Academic Vice President, who established the School of Professional Development (originally CED), and Dr. Mortimer Kreuter, CED's first Dean. Both full and part-time faculty and instructional staff are eligible and may be nominated by SPD students, staff and faculty.
