702.06 University Leaves and Attendance


University Leaves

SBU complies with all pertinent Federal and State legislation specific to leaves for such reasons as Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Jury Duty, and the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). See Human Resource Services for the complete listing of permissable leaves.

RF Employees should consult the Research Foundation of SUNY Handbook for detailed information regarding leaves.

Time and Attendance

State Employees:

State Employed Faculty and Professional Staff on West Campus and the Health Sciences Center (HSC) report attendance and view the summary of personal leave accruals (Vacation, Sick and Holidays) on-line through the SOLAR System.

State Classified Employees are responsible to record personal time and attendance on "time sheets" that are reviewed and certified by supervisors prior to submission to the Payroll Departmetn

Research Foundation Employees:

RF Employees submit all approved timesheets to the Research Foundation Payroll Division of Human Resource Services. Employees are encouraged to become familiar with the Research Foundation of SUNY Handbook


Medical Documentation is required for all sick related absences longer than 5 days as well as other types of absences.

Leave Donations

The State Classified Leave Donation and Faculty/Professional Leave Programs enable employees to donate Vacation leave credits to co-workers in assist them to remain in pay status during extended periods of personal illness.
