Classroom and Conference Responsibilities
Instructors must meet with their classes regularly and promptly, at the time and place scheduled. Classes should be cancelled only for the most serious reasons; when possible students should be provided sufficient advance notice.
It is the responsibility of the academic department to contact the Registrar's Scheduling Staff during hours of operation to request that students be sent a Solar message to indicate that a class will be cancelled due to instructor illness
Instructors should schedule and maintain regular office hours, minimally three hours per week at times that coincide with the schedules of as many students as possible. Office hours should be announced in class, posted outside instructors' offices and in the department offices. Instructors should be available for appointments with students who are unable to meet with them during regularly scheduled office hours.
Faculty members are responsible for the supervision and classroom preparation of Teaching Assistants assigned to their courses or under their direction. They provide oversight for Teaching Assistants to fulfill their instructional responsibilities.
Academic advising is an extension of teaching beyond the classroom and is an essential faculty responsibility. All faculty members should understand college and University degree requirements, as well as the requirements for the major. Faculty members may be asked to participate in special advising programs, such as New Student Orientation sessions, during the summer or the week before each semester begins.
