The Home Page

Title Section

	By clicking on this graphic you will be taken to the Full-Text Search Engine for the Digest.
	By clicking on this graphic you will be taken to the this Help FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) for the Digest.

Table of Contents

This first view (above) shows you the Chapter Titles only. You will note that each chapter title is preceded by a blue triangle (). This "Twistie" allows you to expand the chapter by clicking on it so that you can view all the Sections in the chapter.

Navigation Section

This is the Navigation Bar. There are four different options you can click on:
• "Previous Page" works after you have visited at least one page within the Digest's site.
• "Next Page" takes you to the next logical page in the site.
• "Show Sections" has the same function at this () Twistie; it opens the chapters so that you can view the individual sections.
• "Hide Sections" has the same function as this () Twistie; if sections are visible, it will bring you back to the beginning view as in the above screen shot. (see the screen shot below)

Expanded Chapter





This screen shot shows you that Chapter 2 is now expanded and you can see the individual sections contained in the chapter. You may click on the individual section titles to view the contents of the sections. You will note that the links can be different colors. Purple represents a link that you have already visited. Bright Blue indicates that you have not yet viewed the contents of this link.


Section Pages


The Section Pages have two areas: Content This area contains all the key information pertaining to the titled section. You will find a mixture of graphics, text and Web Links. Navigation Section You may use these to navigate from section to section.

Content

All the information that makes the Faculty & Staff Digest so valuable can be found here. You will find a pleasing mix of graphics, key information and Web Links. While the majority of links are to sites on Campus, it is important to know that links to sites outside of Stony Brook University do not constitute an endorsement by Stony Brook University of the sponsors or products presented on that site. These links are provided as information sources only.

Navigation Section

	By clicking on this graphic you can go back to the previous section.
	By clicking on this graphic you can go forward to the next section.


Searching

This is the current Search for the Digest. Enter the word(s) you are searching for and click on the "Search" button.

You may now select from any of the resulting documents or you can narrow your search by adding another word after "AND" in the search box, or you can do an entirely new search. If your search did not result in what you were looking for, try using a different approach. Say you were looking for information concerning sick time, try searching for "sick time" or "absence."

Printing

Welcome to the Digital World....

This is a "Live" document. It is constantly being updated and modified and, therefore, you should refer to it here, on the Web, rather than print it. The moment it is printed it becomes obsolete. However, if you do wish to have a hard copy you will need to have Lotus Notes on your computer. If you do not have Lotus Notes you will have to print each page from your Web browser (not a pleasant task).

Following the instructions in this section you will be able to print out a copy of all the documents contained in the database, however, you will not get copies of any "Linked" data unless you go to all the individual links with your Web browser and print them as well. As was said, come back and "visit this site often". Bookmark the front page and you will always have it available to you. This site is accessible from anywhere in the world simply by getting on the Internet. There are numerous facilities on Campus that have Internet-ready machines for use by anyone, most public libraries have machines that will access the Internet as well.

To get the Faculty & Staff Digest database onto your Lotus Notes workspace:

Start Lotus Notes
Then click on File/Database/Open:

You will get an "Open Database" Dialog box as follows:
Make sure that the Server is naples.cc.sunysb.edu/DoIT
In the Database window scroll down until you get to the Admin folder:
and double click the folder to open it.

and click on the "Add Icon" button to add the database icon to your Lotus Notes Workspace. You can then click on the "Done" button to close the dialog box.

The Icon looks like this: (). To open the database double-click this icon. When the database opens you should be in the "All Documents" view, if not, select that view:
To print all the documents go to Edit/Select All and then go to File/Print. You will know that the documents have been selected when you see the check mark ()appear to the left of the document title.
