Main Campus Libraries:
Main Campus Libraries lend books and other materials to full-time and part-time faculty, emeritus faculty, staff, students and others holding University identification cards, including employees of University affiliates, such as the Research Foundation, the Stony Brook Foundation, and the Faculty Student Association.
PROCEDURE: BORROWING MATERIALS FROM MAIN CAMPUS LIBRARIES
A Library Courtesy Card will be issued by the Circulation Department to individuals who are:
1. Members of organizations designated by the President
2. Spouses and children of faculty, staff, or graduate students
3. Members of Stony Brook's Alumni Association
4. Research staff at Brookhaven Laboratories
5. Visiting scholars
6. Graduate students from institutions offering borrowing privileges to
Stony Brook graduate students
7. Open access borrowers (from other SUNY campuses)
Main Campus libraries participate in the Long Island Library Resources Council's Research Loan Program and will issue Courtesy Cards to patrons from other participating libraries. For additional information contact the Council at 632-6550.
Reference privileges, including access to library facilities and collections, generally are permitted to New York State residents and individuals affiliated with the Research Libraries Group (RLG). Through Stony Brook's membership in RLG, individuals with University identification cards may obtain access to regional university libraries, including Columbia, Yale, Princeton, and New York Universities. Loan Periods for circulating materials are as follows:
Status : Undergraduate and graduate students, classified staff, courtesy cardholders
Time Period: One month, renewable if not on hold for another borrower
Status : Academic or qualified academic appointees, non-teaching professionals, management/confidential employees, graduate students writing dissertations (issued special courtesy cards on request from their departments)
Time Period: One semester, if not on hold for another borrower

Health Sciences Center Library
The Health Sciences Center (HSC) Library lends books and other materials to individuals holding HSC Library cards. The following are eligible for HSC Library cards:
1. All individuals holding University identification cards
2. Participants in the Open Access Program
3. Alumni of HSC Schools who are members of their alumni associations
4. Visiting scholars
5. Health professionals practicing in Nassau and Suffolk counties
PROCEDURE: BORROWING MATERIALS FROM THE HSC LIBRARY
For all borrowers, the initial loan period for circulating materials is three weeks, with items renewable twice if not on hold for another borrower.
The HSC Library does not extend borrowing privileges through the Research Loan Program of the Long Island Library Resources Council.
However, information services are provided to individuals who do not have borrowing privileges.
