Escape Behavior

What happens when you threaten a fish? A larval zebrafish swims away from a scary object faster than our eyes can see. To characterize the escape responses of larval zebrafish, we used a fancy camera to record their responses at 1,000 frames/second.

From the recordings, we can analyze the escape responses in terms of the timing and magnitude of the turns. Once we know the range of normal escape responses, we can compare them to reponses where we expect the behavior to be abnormal.
