What I think I'll remember most about winning The Stony Brook Short Fiction Prize is the people I met when I visited Stony Brook to read "If the Boyfriend Has Lasted a Year." Everyone was incredibly kind and supportive, and offered much-needed advice about graduate creative writing programs. With the help of the people I met, I was able to narrow down my graduate school prospects and prepare my applications, and just weeks ago I found out I was accepted at the Iowa Writers' Workshop. And since winning the award, I've had fiction accepted for publication in So to Speak, Literal Latte, and Hayden's Ferry Review.
