In July of 1996 after being informed that she had won the Prize, Amy said: "I want to thank you for the encouragement you have given me. I feel incredibly honored (and still surprised!) to have won the very generous Stony Brook Short Fiction Prize. The contest really is a marvelous and rather rare opportunity for undergraduates. My gratitude goes to members of the reading committee, the wonderful anonymous donor, and all others who have helped to put the contest together (no small task, I'm sure)."
