India is home to one-fifth of the world’s population, it is the world’s largest democracy and has the fifth largest economy. Its civilization is one of the world’s oldest and most diverse. It has been and continues to be a major influence on world affairs. Yet, India is still poorly represented in most university curricula.

Students at Stony Brook aimed to change this situation and demanded to learn India’s dynamic intellectual traditions and role on world history.
