Research Projects

Research Accomplishments
Many Indian American faculty members in the Humanities, Social and Natural Sciences, Engineering, Medicine have distinguished themselves by their research and brought honor to Stony Brook. To mention only a few:

    • Dr. Pradeep Dubey, Leading Professor of Economics, and a expert on Decision Making, had strong ties with Indian Universities.
    • Dr. Jainendra Jain, Physics, was awarded the Gugengeim Fellowship this year.
    • Dr. Vishwanath Prasad, heads a consortium of six universities and several industries for research on electronic materials, funded by a million dollar from the Department of Defense.
    • Dr. S.N. Sridhar has been designated as a Senior/Superior Indologist by the National Endowment for Humanities.

Stony Brook's involvement with India is broad-based and distinguished:

  1. Expertise: Stony Brook faculty have conducted research on a wide range of subjects including drama, dance, demographics and economy, history of science, languages, linguistics, literature, political systems, philosophy, religion and theater. They have published many books and articles on various aspects of India.
  2. Honors and Awards: Stony Brook faculty have won national and international recognition for their research on India, as demonstrated by the award of numerous prestigious research grants and fellowships, including:
    The Senior Research Fellowship and Short Team Research Fellowship from the American Institute of Indian Studies.

Teaching Accomplishments

Proving that a great Research University can also be a Great Teaching University, we have on our faculty, Dr. C.V. Krishnan (Chemistry) who is perhaps one of the most decorated science teachers in the nation. His awards include:
    The prestigious National Catalyst Award given by the Chemical Manufacturers' Association
    The Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics (conferred by President Reagan at the White House)
    The American Teacher Award by The Walt Disney Company
