You, your business, organizations and communities can help in many ways. For example. . . The Latin American & Caribbean Studies Center (LACS) has already founded two fellowship programs. The “Partnership Fund for Latino Scholarship” begun by Stony Brook faculty and staff, has been helping deserving students for a decade. The newly established (2003) “A. Sánchez Construction Corporation Scholarship” shows how expanding Long Island businesses can help young students acquire the skills needed for the workplace of the future. LACS welcomes contributions to the Partnership Fund and ideas for new scholarships honoring prominent supporters and contributors. The PARTNERSHIP FUND FOR LATINO SCHOLARS welcomes private contributions to award to talented college students. New Graduate Fellowships can also be earmarked for students in such fields as Education, History, Social Work or Medicine. LACS foresees larger programs to establish new research centers and professorships about the challenges facing the emerging Latino presence on Long Island. LACS invites major funding for a “LATIN-AMERICAS CENTER” that will host academic and cultural programs on the Americas, as well as related student and community organizations.
