Sounds for all Seasons
Camerata Singers

The CAMERATA SINGERS have sung at prestigious music festivals such as the Utrecht Early Music Festival, the Festival Lanaudière in Québec, and the San Luis Obispo Mozart Festival in California. In 2000 they represented the United States at the World Choral Festival in Seoul and the Taipei International Choral Festival and in 2002, the San Juan Coral in Argentina. In 2004 they traveled to Spain to sing in the Torrevieja Habanera and Cantonigros festivals.

The Camerata’s 30 members represent a cross-section of the University at Stony Brook and surrounding communities, ranging from teachers and voice students to business people and homemakers.

Camerata sings music from all periods, early to modern. Performances range from the modern premier of the Brockes Passion by Baroque composer J.F. Fasch to the first American performance of Lamdeni by the contemporary American composer, Lukas Foss. They have twice toured the historic Missions along the California coast, singing Masses and works by early Latin American composers.

In the Spring of 2004 their first commercial recording – music by American composers Randall Thompson and Libby Larsen – was released on the Koch Classics International label and was hailed by Fanfare Magazine “as performances on a very high level….precise, musical, and always in tune.”

Camerata will record an all-Copland CD, also on the Koch label, in March 2006.

Their December 2003 concert, “East Meets West,” may be viewed online at: http://www.aa2sbu.org/aaezine/articles/videos/121203CamerataSingersWangCenterChapelPHTuan.html

Camerata rehearses Wednesdays 7:15- 9:45 pm. Auditions are competitive and by appointment only.
