STUDENT COMPOSERS & PERFORMANCE AT STONY BROOK (CCP)

Student composers at Stony Brook benefit from the department's renowned commitment to excellence in contemporary music performance. Stony Brook's performance program attracts some of the finest performers across the nation and around the globe.

Our first-rate performers and the STONY BROOK CONTEMPORARY CHAMBER PLAYERS (CCP) are a valuable resource to our student composers. We encourage collegial composer-performer collaborations and performance of new works on concert programs at the Staller Center for the Arts.

Student composers' works are played on several STONY BROOK COMPOSERS concerts during the academic year presented by the CCP. Student works are also performed at the Computer Music Concert (Fall), Tape Music Concert (Spring) and Electronic Music Concert (Spring). These may include live instruments, MIDI and computer-interactive electronics, music for dance, video and film. The STONY BROOK COMPOSERS concerts are included in the department's annual brochure mailings.

The new music concerts of the Stony Brook Contemporary Chamber Players include the annual World Premieres Concert series and other performances in New York City and at Stony Brook. The ensemble has had consistently fine reviews from MUSICAL AMERICA, THE NEW YORK TIMES and the LONG ISLAND VOICE.

Stony Brook composers' works are also performed at M.Mus. and DMA degree recitals, which annually number more than two-hundred-fifty concerts.

The National Research Council has ranked Stony Brook's Department of Music among the top fourteen music schools, conservatories and music departments in the country. Our continuing commitment to provide our students with the best possible creative and learning experience enables excellence to flourish.
