The Department of Music at Stony Brook University offers:

MM/DMA Degrees in Performance: Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Flute, Clarinet, Oboe, Bassoon, Percussion, French Horn, Trumpet, Trombone; Voice; Harpsichord, Guitar, Piano
The Online Application and all Supporting Application Materials are due in the Music Department Office by January 15, 2010 (except for areas that require pre-screening, in which the application and all materials are due by 1 December 2009).

*: 2-3 original essays in music research, analysis or criticism. In addition to these, you may send papers on other subjects if you think that they support some aspect of your application for admission. Please limit your essays to those that exemplify your best work
**: ALL Flute, Violin, Viola, Bassoon, and Voice applicants MUST send a preliminary audio recording in order to be invited to a live audition (both MM and DMA). All Pre-Screening Materials are due: 1 December 2009 .
***: Submit two original essays in music research, analysis, or criticism that demonstrate your ability to carry out scholarly work in music. The papers, typically generated in prior course work, should be at least ten pages in length and demonstrate knowledge of proper bibliographic citation practices.
†: ANY student indicating ANY language other than English as their first/native language will be required to submit a TOEFL score. This score must be submitted directly from ETS electronically. Copies of your results are not acceptable. There are NO automatic TOEFL waivers. Admitted PhD and DMA students whose native/primary language is not English will have to take a SPEAK test upon arrival.
