Stony Brook Community Music Program

Musicians on Long Island no longer have to travel into the city to receive conservatory-level music instruction.  With an outstanding faculty and the resources of a world-class university, the Community Music Program at Stony Brook University has grown to encompass all age groups and levels of musical experience.

Registration for 2009-2010 is now open.  Go to the registration page for more information and to download an application.

Kindergarten through 2nd Grade:
Music Basics for Kids
The Music Basics for Kids Program is a great opportunity to introduce young children to the exciting world of music performance and study, with singing, dancing and playing in a curriculum based in Dalcroze Eurythmics.

3rd though 5th grade:

Children's Choir
The Children's Choir is a performance and music theory program designed for older children. Students learn to use their voices and also sharpen their musical skills through the well-established musical pedagogy known as Dalcroze Eurhythmics.

6th though 12th grade:

Pre-College Division
The Pre-College Division offers coaching and performance opportunities in chamber music and a rich curriculum that includes composition, music theory, and aural skills. Students enrolled in the program are already accomplished musicians in their schools who are looking for new, challenging and exciting experiences that are not offered anyplace else.

Post-graduate:

Chamber Music Workshops
Participants enjoy weekly coaching workshops and chamber performance opportunities. The workshops are eight weeks in length and include at least six coaching sessions, culminating in a recital in the Staller Center Recital Hall. Each group works intensively with an experienced chamber music coach. Groups for strings, woodwinds, brass, piano, and voice will be formed based on ability and repertoire.
