Thursday, September 27 Faculty Recital, “Music to Welcome Spring,” 8:00 pm
Dvorak Piano Quintet; Mozart Divertimento for oboe, two horns, and strings; Vivaldi “Autumn” from The Four Seasons; and Zelenka Sonata V in F for two oboes, bassoon, and basso continuo will be performed by the award-winning artists-in-residence in the Department of Music. Thursday, October 18 Emerson String Quartet, 8:00 pm
The Quartet’s first concert of the season will include the World Premiere of a composition commissioned by Stony Brook by the distinguished composer Bright Sheng, whose work draws on late 20th-century contemporary ideas and the folk music of China and the surrounding Silk Road region. Also on the program is Beethoven String Quartet in F, Op. 59 No. 1 and Haydn String Quartet in C, Op. 20 No. 2. Pre-concert talk at 7:00 pm. Tickets $42. Call 632-ARTS or visit www.stallercenter.com

Students in the Pre-College Music Program perform chamber works. Ensembles include string quartets, piano trios, percussion, woodwinds, brass and flute choir.

Tuesday, March 11 Piano Project, 12:00 pm, 4:00 pm, and 8:00 pm
Faculty, students and guest artists explore the works of a single composer, genre or period in a single day of concerts and lectures. Program to be announced.

Monday, March 31, 8:00 pm and Wednesday, April 2, 8:00 pm Colin Carr Presents Beethoven’s Complete Works for Piano and Cello
On the heels of their critically acclaimed Lincoln Center performances of the complete Bach cello suites, Colin Carr and Thomas Sauer now turn their focus to Beethoven’s complete works for cello and piano. Both performers are active soloists, chamber musicians, and teachers who play with major orchestras and artists the world over. Wednesday, April 30 to Saturday, May 3 Chamber Music Festival
Faculty, students, guest artists, and members of the Emerson String Quartet perform chamber works of all genres, time periods, and configurations. Featuring public masterclasses, wall-to-wall performances, pre-performance lectures, and a reception at the conclusion of the festival. A separate brochure with festival details will be available in April.
