The STONY BROOK CHORAL PROGRAM consists of two choirs, Chorale and the Camerata Singers. Both are open to students, faculty, staff, as well as singers from the community. The ability to read music is required and members of the Camerata Singers should be excellent sight-readers with extensive choral experience. Auditions for Chorale will be the first Monday of every semester at 7:15 in room 0113 of the Music Dept. Auditions for Camerata are by appointment. Friday, December 7 Camerata Singers

Sunday, December 9 Messiah Sing-Along, 3:00 pm
A seasonal tradition at Stony Brook featuring the University Orchestra, guest soloists, and conductors in a performance of Handel’s “Messiah”. Scores will be available for purchase at the door. Part One, Worthy is the Lamb/Amen, and, of course, the Hallelujah Chorus will be sung by the audience.

Monday, May 5 Chorale, 8:00 pm
Several seasons ago, Camerata performed 2 movements of Paul Basler's ecstatic and lyrical "Cantos alegres." Following the success of that concert, Chorale will perform the entire set of 11 songs with horn and piano accompaniment. Also, verse anthems by the 2 greatest composers of the 17th and 18th centuries, writing in English: Purcell and Handel. Tickets $10/$5. Call 632-ARTS.

Friday, May 10 Camerata Singers
Performing works by Bach, Paulus, Lauridsen, and Nanino. Long considered by many to be among the greatest a cappella works ever written, Bach's double choir motet, Singet dem Herr'n, will be conducted by Jeffrey Francom. Also featured will be Echoes Between the Silent Peaks for chorus and chamber ensemble by acclaimed American composer, Stephen Paulus, set to atmospheric poems of 8th century Chinese poet, Tu Fu, and conducted by Dr. Mount.

There will be a pre-concert lecture at 7 pm in the Recital Hall delivered by co-conductor, Jeffrey Francom, concerning performance practice in Bach's motet.
