Jazz
Ray Anderson, Director of Jazz Studies



Stony Brook's jazz ensembles cover the spectrum from small acoustic groups, to electrified fusion/funk combos, to big band. Performance repertoire encompasses the entire history of jazz and includes premieres of new compositions by students and the director of jazz studies, Ray Anderson.


Tuesday, December 11 Jazz Combos, 8:00 pm
Jazz combos, lead by Ray Anderson, perform new works and jazz standards with a heavy emphasis on improvisation.

Thursday, December 13 Jazz Ensemble, 8:00 pm
Stony Brook University’s famed big band, the SBU Blowage, swings the night away with original charts, sizzling classics, and hot soloists, featuring Ray Anderson. Tickets $10/$5. Call 632-ARTS.

Wednesday, April 30 to Saturday, May 3 Chamber Music Festival
Faculty, students, guest artists, and members of the Emerson String Quartet perform chamber works of all genres, time periods, and configurations. Featuring public masterclasses, wall-to-wall performances, pre-performance lectures, and a reception at the conclusion of the festival. A separate brochure with festival details will be available in April.
