11. Women's History Month - Women Who Rocked the World Movie Series THIS WEEK: OSAMA

The Wo/Men's Center presents the "Women Who Rocked the World" movie series in honor of Women's History Month. Movies will be shown in the Women's Studies Colloquium Center in the Old Chemistry building from 6 to 8PM on Wednesdays starting March 15th. This week's movie is "Osama", which is inspired by a true story. A 12-year-old Afghan girl and her mother lose their jobs when the Taliban regime closes the hospital where they work. As the Taliban has already begun to take over Afghanistan, the country's women find themselves forbidden to leave their houses without a 'legal companion'--specifically, a boy or a man. With both her husband and brother dead, there is no one left to support the family. Feeling that she has no other choice, the mother disguises her daughter as a boy.
