1. Individual Development Awards

Once again United University Professions and the State of New York are offering Individual Development Awards to assist eligible UUP employees to develop their full professional potential and to prepare for advancement. Funding may be provided for enhancing teaching, research capabilities and improving professional knowledge and skills. The maximum possible award is $1000.00. Funding for the program covers eligible projects between July 1, 2005 and June 30, 2006. Complete details and the application can be found at http://www.uup.lmc.state.ny.us/ or at the UUP Chapter Office. All applications must be submitted to the UUP Chapter Office no later than 3:00 pm March 1, 2006.

3. International Travel Policy

As the semester begins, this is a reminder that all students who travel abroad on University programs are required to complete all International Travel Policy (ITP) forms. Faculty traveling abroad with students on University programs are required to complete the two-page itinerary form. Faculty or staff traveling abroad on University business are strongly advised to complete all of the forms as well. They can be found on the International Academic Programs (IAP) website at www.stonybrook.edu/iap.
Permission is not required for student travel unless the country in question is on the State Department Travel Warning list which can be found at http://travel.state.gov/travel/warnings.html.
All completed forms, questions, e-mails, or comments regarding the ITP should be sent to Jennifer Schlitz, E5320 Melville Library, Z=3390 or Jennifer.Schlitz@stonybrook.edu. Please keep copies of all forms for your own records before you submit them to this office.

Introducing Dr. Christopher Sang Don Lee
The Department of Urology is pleased to announce that Dr. Christopher Sang Don Lee has joined the Department as an Assistant Professor of Urology, specializing in Urologic Oncology and Tumor Immunology at Stony Brook University Hospital and the Long Island Cancer Center.
Dr. Lee has a joint faculty appointment in the Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology, which will support his continued work in cancer vaccine research. He will be seeing patients at the Urology practices located in Stony Brook Medical Park and Stony Brook University Hospital. Appointments can be scheduled by calling 444-6270.

2. Introducing Dr. Todd K. Rosengart, Chief, Cardiothoracic Surgery

The Department of Surgery is very pleased to announce that Todd K. Rosengart, MD, FACS, FACC, has joined our faculty as chief of cardiothoracic surgery. He comes to Stony Brook from Northwestern University's School of Medicine in Chicago, where he was professor of surgery and chief of cardiothoracic surgery at its affiliated hospitals of Evanston Northwestern Healthcare.
Dr. Rosengart will serve as co-director of the Heart Center of University Hospital. He will work closely with his counterpart in cardiovascular medicine, David L. Brown, MD, chief of cardiology and co-director of the Heart Center.
We hope that you will welcome Dr. Rosengart to our community. Physicians who would like to speak directly with him should call 444-1820, or page him directly through the hospital operator.

Part 1, How to Create & Maintain a Budget - This workshop will supply you with the tools to create and maintain a weekly and monthly budget. A budget form listing all the categories of income and expenses will be supplied to you. We will check each category and discuss where money can be saved and address other areas where there maybe a shortage. January 25, 12:00-1:00 Wang Room 201
Part 2, How Does Credit Affect Your Everyday Life - This workshop will address the necessity of having good credit and how it applies to more than just obtaining a loan or a credit card. Movie originally aired on PBS June 2005 - Veteran correspondent John Merrow takes viewers behind the scenes of American higher education to experience college through the eyes of students, professors, and college administrators. Set on four different college campuses across the country- a private liberal arts college, a major state university, a regional public university, and a community college. Declining by Degrees examines both the promise and the peril in higher education today.

1. Bus Trip to Atlantic City on President's Day, February 20th

The Employee Activities Council is running a bus trip to the Tropicana Hotel in Atlantic City on Presidents' Day, Feb. 20, 2006. The cost is $25 per person, with $5 cash back at the casino. 2. Stony Brook Chorale Auditions

Auditions will be held January 23 for the spring season. We will be performing Italian Baroque composer Gasparini's delightful "Messa a quattro voci concertata," Castelnuovo-Tedesco's seductive "Romancero Gitano" for chorus and guitar, and Virgil Thomson's disarming old Southern hymn tunes.

4. Red Molly & Pat Wictor on double bill of acoustic folk at The University Cafe, Sunday, January 29th 2 PM

The University Cafe's Sunday afternoon Acoustic Concert series continues with a double bill of Red Molly and Pat Wictor on Sunday, January 29th, 2 P.M.
Red Molly is a trio of Laurie MacAllister, Abbie Gardner and Carolann Solebello who sing and play several instruments (guitar, banjo, mandolin and dobro) in a repertoire ranging from Appalachian ballads to 20th-century pop/country standards and contemporary folk.
Pat Wictor, a master lap-style slide guitarist, blends the influences of tradition-minded musicians of the present and the past to create a distinctive voice of his own. Dave Carter, Bruce Cockburn, Kelly Joe Phelps and Chris Smither come to mind when asked for comparisons to Wictor.

2. Are you an overweight healthy non-smoker?

We invite you to participate in a study of how your lungs work.
This study involves pulmonary function testing (2 hours) , followed by 2 days of chest imaging (about 4 hours on the first day and 2 hours on the second day). We will be studying whether your weight is affecting the way your lungs clear things that you breathe in.
If you are interested and you are: Overweight, Never smoked, Do not have a cough, Are not pregnant, Are over the age of 18, No pacemaker or other device in your chest
Please Call: 631-444-1776 and ask to speak to Dr. Solomita in the Pulmonary Division about the lung study. You will be paid $25 for each day of imaging that you complete.
