1. Introducing Dr. Apostolos K. Tassiopoulos

The Department of Surgery is very pleased to announce that Apostolos K. Tassiopoulos, MD, FACS, has joined our Division of Vascular Surgery as assistant professor of surgery. Dr. Tassiopoulos comes to Stony Brook from Rush University in Chicago, where he was an assistant professor of cardiovascular surgery, and a senior attending vascular surgeon at the John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.
We hope that you will welcome Dr. Tassiopoulos to our community. Physicians who would like to speak directly with him should call 444-1279, or page him directly through the hospital operator. For consultations/appointments, please call 444-2565.

1. EAP Lunchtime Learning, Retirement With a Purpose

Deciding when to retire is strictly personal but, Will you still have a sense of purpose and meaning in retirement?. Have you developed hobbies and interests to pursue? Can you answer the question, What will you do each day after you retire?. Retirement with a purpose inspires and challenges. This workshop will address topics such as how to make the transition from work to retirement and planning for a fruitful retirement.

2. Learn to Speak English - free!

Are you interested in learning to speak English more fluently? Do you need help with Reading or Writing skills? If you answered yes to one or both of these questions, we have a free service available to you. 3. Lawson Training

Lawson Training Class to be held on 6/15/06 at 1pm this class will be held in the IT Training Room, (HSC-Library - Computer Classroom - Room 3-133A), "For All Hospital Employees". To attend this class please contact Michele Thomas, Lawson Support Specialist, ext. 4-7805 and you must have a SBUH main computer sign-on. There will be 2 parts covered in this class, the first half is for ordering from the Storerooms in the Hospital and the second half will cover ordering from an outside Vendor. I suggest that all employees who are either new to Stony Brook Hospital or if you just need a refresher course, please attend this class.

1. Stony Brook Women's Basketball Camp

The Stony Brook Women's Basketball Staff is running a week of basketball camp for girls ages 8-14 from June 25-June 29. The cost of camp is $300 and the hours are 9 am to 4 pm. Anyone interested should contact Debbie Ayres at 632-9790 or by email at Deborah.Ayres@stonybrook.edu.

2. Department of Campus Recreation Summer Mountain Bike Trips

The Department of Campus Recreation will be organizing 2 mountain bike trips to the Rocky Point Mountain Bike trails on Monday, June 19 and on Friday, July 28 at 10:30am. Registration Fee is $10.00 per person, per trip which includes permit fees and lunch. This trip is for beginner/intermediate bikers in good health and will be approximately 6-10 miles in length. Participants must provide own transportation and own mountain bike/helmet/eye protection. Only students, faculty & staff of the University are eligible to participate. 3. Estee Lauder Tickets - Saturday, June 24th

The Employee Activities Council has tickets for Estee Lauder products. This is a "closed door" for invited guests for Stony Brook employees, friends and the community. There is no charge for this admission. Admittance is from 8:00-3:30 p.m. (no one is permitted on line after 3:30 pm) at 90 Nicon Court, Hauppauge. Contact Dorothy Kutzin at 632-6040.

4. Steve Pikiell Basketball Camp at Stony Brook University

Steve Pikiell and the entire Stony Brook Men's Basketall Staff is running 4 sessions of basketball camp this summer for boys ages 8-16. Our "Weekend Session" will be Friday June 30-Sunday July 2 from 9 am to 4 pm and cost $200. We are also running 3 weeks of traditional day camp. These three weeks are "Session I" Monday July 10-Friday July 14, "Session II" Monday July 24-Friday July 28, and "Session III" Monday July 31-Thursday August 3. All 3 sessions will run 9 am to 4 pm and the cost of Sessions I and II will be $295, while Session III costs $240.

6. British Folk Singer Pete Morton performs at The University Cafe, Sunday July 9th at 7 P.M.

Folk singer Pete Morton comes from Nottingham, England with a wealth of great songs and stage presence. His show is dynamic and intense as well as approachable and funloving. Pete sings from the heart, delivering songs that tell compelling stories and speak of the human condition from a very unique perspective. The songs are an unruly mix of humour, politics, love and social comment, wrapping their way around the folk tradition.
Pete has recorded six solo albums of original material with Flying An Unknown Flag, his latest, receiving wide acclaim in the folk world.

6. Macromedia Dreamweaver MX: - NCE 328 - 6 sessions - Fee $319

Dreamweaver is the industry-standard website development software, supporting sophisticated functions such as JavaScript, Dynamic HTML, and CSS. This course will cover topics such as basic page creation, layout tables, frames v. no frames, how to edit HTML, internal FTP capabilities, and how to manage workflow. Students will explore the cross-application functions, such as incorporating Fireworks graphics and Flash buttons. (No knowledge of Flash required.)

2. Long Island Database Project - Volunteers Wanted

The Long Island Cancer Center is creating a database of blood samples and clinical information to help researchers better understand why some individuals develop breast and prostate cancer while others do not.
Women and men are eligible to participate if they were diagnosed with breast or prostate cancer OR have never been diagnosed with cancer, are 18 years of age or older, are a current Long Island resident and have lived on Long Island for at least 5 years.
