3. Update To State Relocation Policy
SUNY recently revised their relocation policy. State employees may now be reimbursed for actual moving household goods, personal effects and travel expenses that exceed the previous limit of $3000. The appointee should select a carrier that is registered with the Interstate Commerce Commission. If a private mover is used, three written estimates must be obtained; the lowest of which will be used for reimbursement.

1. Lawson Training Class
Lawson Training Classes for the month of July to be held on 7/5/06 at 10am or 7/26/06 at 1pm, these classes will be held in the IT Training Room, (HSC-Library - Computer Classroom - Room 3-133A), "For All Hospital Employees". To attend either of these classes please contact Michele Thomas, Lawson Support Specialist, ext. 4-7805. All employees attending should have a SBUH main computer sign-on. There will be 2 parts covered in these classes, the first half is for ordering from the Storerooms in the Hospital and the second half will cover ordering from an outside Vendor. I suggest that all employees who are either new to Stony Brook Hospital or need a refresher course, you are more than welcome to attend this class.

2. Steve Pikiell Basketball Camp at Stony Brook University
Steve Pikiell and the entire Stony Brook Men's Basketall Staff is running 4 sessions of basketball camp this summer for boys ages 8-16. Our "Weekend Session" will be Friday June 30-Sunday July 2 from 9 am to 4 pm and cost $200. We are also running 3 weeks of traditional day camp. These three weeks are "Session I" Monday July 10-Friday July 14, "Session II" Monday July 24-Friday July 28, and "Session III" Monday July 31-Thursday August 3. All 3 sessions will run 9 am to 4 pm and the cost of Sessions I and II will be $295, while Session III costs $240.

3. University Cafe Sunday Acoustic Series announces fall line-up including The Acoustic Strawbs, Lynn Miles and Eric Andersen
The University Cafe's Sunday Acoustic Concert Series, co-sponsored by WUSB-FM, begins its third season this September with a series of Sunday afternoon concerts at 2 P.M.
The series includes:

The Acoustic Strawbs on October 8th
Lynn Miles on October 22nd
Eric Andersen on November 5th
John Wesley Harding on November 12th

The final show in the Summer Evening Series will take place on Sunday, August 13th, at 7 P.M. with the voice and guitar of Lisa Moscatiello and the cello of Fred Lieder presenting an eclectic mix of songs. James O'Malley will open. Tickets for this show are $15.00 with a $10.00 ticket for Stony Brook students, faculty and staff.

4. Paper Comes to Life! The Wang Center's Second Annual Origami Festival August 2-9
Free to the public and fun for all ages!
Exhibition Hours: 10:30am 4:00pm (Aug 2 to 5, Aug 7 to 9) Additional hours for concurrent Asian American Film Festival viewers at Wang Center Origami Festival Hours: 11:00am 4:00pm (Aug 9)
Want a household pet? How about a dragon, a frog, or a crane? How about an exotic bouquet of flowers? Please join our Second Annual Origami Festival for a chance to create and own these wonderful objects and designs. The weeklong event will teach and refine the art of paper-folding as instructors demonstrate various folding techniques. Workshops will also be available to allow you to produce your own creations. In addition, last years popular Storigami, storytelling through origami, will be held again at this event.

Professional artists, amateur photographers and Web novices should know the fundamentals of Photoshop, the most powerful image editing software on the market. Whether you want to learn how to prepare photographs for offset printing or just want to create good-looking scans for your personal homepage, a working knowledge of Photoshop is essential. 1. Long Island Database Project - Volunteers Wanted
The Long Island Cancer Center is creating a database of blood samples and clinical information to help researchers better understand why some individuals develop breast and prostate cancer while others do not.
Women and men are eligible to participate if they were diagnosed with breast or prostate cancer OR have never been diagnosed with cancer, are 18 years of age or older, are a current Long Island resident and have lived on Long Island for at least 5 years.

3. Volunteers needed for a study that investigates Sleep and Metabolism in Women with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
Women of Normal Weight, Who Have Been Diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Between the Ages of 21 and 30 OR Women of Normal Weight, in Good Health, Between the Ages of 31 and 60
In association with the Northport Veterans Administration and the Stony Brook General Clinical Research Center, researchers are conducting a study that investigates sleep and metabolism in women with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) compared to healthy women.
Healthy volunteers are needed to serve as the comparison group for IBS patients.
Participation involves a blood draw and two over-night sleep studies.
COMPENSATION UP TO $500.00

9. Study to Identify New Cancer Markers
The General Clinical Research Center at Stony Brook University Hospital is seeking healthy volunteers for a study to identify new cancer markers inn blood, tissue and body fluids to develop laboratory tests that may diagnose cancers earlier and/or identify patients at risk for a poor outcome and who may benefit from more aggressive therapy than is normally recommended. Volunteers are offered compensation up to $25 plus hospital parking.
