2. Campus Wireless Equipment Policy

The Procurement Office has instituted a new campus policy for the establishment and payment of wireless services and equipment funded by the Research Foundation, State and Stony Brook Foundation. The policy can be found in the "Employee's Corner" of the Procurement Office website, or by clicking on the link below

3. Update To State Relocation Policy

SUNY recently revised their relocation policy. State employees may now be reimbursed for actual moving household goods, personal effects and travel expenses that exceed the previous limit of $3000. The appointee should select a carrier that is registered with the Interstate Commerce Commission. If a private mover is used, three written estimates must be obtained; the lowest of which will be used for reimbursement

This year the Southampton Writers Conference will take place at Stony Brook University, July 26-30 at the Wang Center. 2. Hip and Knee Pain Seminar Friday Aug 11, 2006 9-11am

Seminar will include diagrams of the hip and knee with discussion of their normal anatomy, what can go wrong in either joint such as tendinitis, bursitis, synovitis, meniscal tears and osteoarthritis. Signs and symptoms of a problem, how to get a good diagnosis eg, how to give a good history, x-rays with examples and the physical exam and what it tells us. Treatments for various problems are discussed including, diet, nutrition, exercise, medication, arthroscopy and hip and knee replacement surgery. There is also a question and answer period. 3. Become a Literacy Tutor Volunteer

All you need is a high school diploma, two hours a week, and a desire to teach an adult to read and write or even to speak in English. 1 out of every 7 adults in Suffolk County, or 14% of our countys adult population, do not have the literacy skills to function fully in society.
These individuals cant read a newspaper, fill out a job application, help educate their children, fully participate in community life, and they cant read well enough to vote.
What Can You Do About It? You Can Train to Become a Volunteer Tutor!
Please call the Stony Brook Adult Literacy Center today to find out more about becoming a volunteer tutor and to enroll in the Fall Program.

1. Department of Campus Recreation Summer Kayaking Trips

The Department of Campus Recreation will be organizing a kayaking trip in Port Jefferson Harbor on Monday, August 7 @ 10:30am. Registration Fee is $20.00 per person which includes kayak rental and lunch. Undergraduate students registered for summer classes are free. This trip is for beginner/intermediate kayakers in good health and will be approximately 5 hours length. Only students, faculty & staff of the University are eligible to participate. 2. Steve Pikiell Basketball Camp at Stony Brook University

Steve Pikiell and the entire Stony Brook Men's Basketall Staff is running 4 sessions of basketball camp this summer for boys ages 8-16. Our "Weekend Session" will be Friday June 30-Sunday July 2 from 9 am to 4 pm and cost $200. We are also running 3 weeks of traditional day camp. These three weeks are "Session I" Monday July 10-Friday July 14, "Session II" Monday July 24-Friday July 28, and "Session III" Monday July 31-Thursday August 3. All 3 sessions will run 9 am to 4 pm and the cost of Sessions I and II will be $295, while Session III costs $240.

3. Vocalist/Guitarist Lisa Moscatiello and Cellist Fred Lieder to perform at The University Cafe, Sunday August 13th at 7 P.M.

The wonderful voice and guitar of Lisa Moscatiello and Fred Lieders elegant cello sounds mix in an eclectic selection of songs ranging from traditional folk to Lisa's recent ventures into what she calls "acid cabaret". Fred Lieder is a classically-trained cellist and a much sought-after studio musician. James O'Malley, who stands at the top of the singer-songwriters from our area, opens.

5. Paper Comes to Life! The Wang Center's Second Annual Origami Festival August 2-9

Free to the public and fun for all ages!

Want a household pet? How about a dragon, a frog, or a crane? How about an exotic bouquet of flowers? Please join our Second Annual Origami Festival for a chance to create and own these wonderful objects and designs. The weeklong event will teach and refine the art of paper-folding as instructors demonstrate various folding techniques. Workshops will also be available to allow you to produce your own creations. In addition, last years popular Storigami, storytelling through origami, will be held again at this event.

2. Macromedia Dreamweaver MX: - NCE 328 - 6 sessions - Fee $319

Dreamweaver is the industry-standard website development software, supporting sophisticated functions such as JavaScript, Dynamic HTML, and CSS. This course will cover topics such as basic page creation, layout tables, frames v. no frames, how to edit HTML, internal FTP capabilities, and how to manage workflow. Students will explore the cross-application functions, such as incorporating Fireworks graphics and Flash buttons. (No knowledge of Flash required.)

3. Study to Identify New Cancer Markers

The General Clinical Research Center at Stony Brook University Hospital is seeking healthy volunteers for a study to identify new cancer markers inn blood, tissue and body fluids to develop laboratory tests that may diagnose cancers earlier and/or identify patients at risk for a poor outcome and who may benefit from more aggressive therapy than is normally recommended. Volunteers are offered compensation up to $25 plus hospital parking.

6. Stress: A Fact Of Life

Do you know that stress can affect the brain, heart, hormones, and mental performance?
Did you ever wonder why some people get stressed out more easliy than others?
We are looking for men and women, 18-50 years of age, to participate in a non-invasive study.
Participation in this protocol requires that volunteers be free on two consecutive week-days including two hospital overnights, for example: Sunday night to Tuesday afternoon, or Tuesday night to Thursday afternoon. You will be free to pursue to your normal activities after 4:15pm, but you will need to be back for the overnight stay.
Compensation: $200.00

8. Study of Migraine and Blinking

18 to 60 year old subjects who experience migraines needed to participate in an experiment investigating eyelid movements while watching a movie during a migraine free period.
